It's that magical time of year again, the scent of pine, cinnamon, apple cider and the sounds of Christmas carols in the background, and, if you're lucky enough, snow gathers along window sills.  Wishing each and everyone of you an old-fashioned Christmas.

After the new year, I'm gearing up for a visit to Creston, Washington, for further research on outlaw Harry Tracy, which I'm really excited about.  In the meantime, I've added a few things to my hideout I hope you will check it out when you have a moment.

Over at my Harry Tracy page, I've revamped, as well as added a picture from my collection where this outlaw had a stand off with a lawman and posse member.

Check out the new stuff over at my Old West slang.

I added more pictures from my collection of Wild Bill Hickok and Deadwood, SD.  Included on Wild Bill's page are pix of the original No. 10 Saloon, plus more I hope you will find interesting
< g >  To check 'em out, click here.

Hey, have you been watching the HBO series  "Deadwood" on Sundays?  Awesome show!  I hear it's been picked up for a second season.  I've been receiving tons of e-mail from folks asking about the profanity used in the show.  Don't be shocked, but yes, men did talk like that back then, and the swear words used on the show were actually used back in that era.  If you haven't yet seen this superb well-researched show, word of caution: make sure the kiddies are in bed, or out of the room while watching. Don't want them picking up new words to use on the playground. '-)

Happy Birthday America!

As we kick off into summer, one of the things that draws me back into days gone by is the yummy smell of green beans simmering on the stove.  It reminds me of my grandparents home and the scent  lingering in the air...ahhhhhh! I've added a family handed down tried-and-oh-so-true slow cooked grean bean recipe I hope you will enjoy.

Oooh, and psssst... My western historical romance novel,

Let's see, what's new in my hideout this month. Oh yeah, more links to sites that are so well worth the visit :-) and more  Old West slang.

As many of you may have noticed, I've been adding to one of my fave outlaws, Butch Cassidy. Recently, I added from my collection a photo of the June 2, 1899 dynamited train holdup by the Wild Bunch.

Thank ya bunches to everyone who has taken the time to email me. If I haven't gotten back to you, I will shortly. I do answer each email.

And hey, if you happen to have an authentic photo of the Wild West era, or of your travels,  and would like me to post it on my site, please send it to me in an attachment. Be sure to let me know if you'd like your name and/or email included in courtesy line.

Did Butch Cassidy survive Bolivia? This question has been asked many times over, ending with a nod or a shake of the head.  Perhaps a letter by a lady claiming to be William Phillips' widow might be of interest. Though, my inquiring mind wonders why would she would write this letter to a complete stranger after he wrote her asking if her husband was Cassidy. I've added the letter on Butch Cassidypage and clicking that link will take to you to the famous outlaw's page :-)

Oh, BTW, I'm looking for a death photo of Ben "Tall Texan" Kilpatrick to compare with the one I have of him when he was killed in the train holdup near Sanderson, Texas.  If anyone has a photo, I'd be much obliged if you could wing it my way in an e-mail attachment.

Hope y'all had a happy Christmas and a merry New Year!

Happy holly-days!!

Wishing everyone a wonderful Christmas season, and a happy New Year in 2003! As 2002 comes to an end, I just wanted to take a moment to say many heartfelt thanks to all you reg'lars and new comers visting my Web site and for your amazing support and encouragement these past two and a half years. It's always a pleasure hearin' from you. I've been hard at work on my current western historical romance book, but come February, I plan to have some new pages in my site featuring "The Outlaw Cave" with the strays and mavericks.  Have a safe and happy new year!  Merry Christmas!!

Have a hankering for Hard Tack? You know,  that staple men carried with them. Check out the new Breads n' Biscuits page.  There's a reason men carried this with them. And no it wasn't for the bland taste. It's because it kept well.

One of the things I love most about my neck of the woods is all the nature & beauty. Tucked in along a curling country road outside of Woodland and bumping over a covered-bridge spanning Cedar Creek is a 1876-vintage grist mill. It's truly like stepping back in time into a long ago era.  You can also have a volunteer grind grain to take home and walk along the path where salmon swim. I snapped the picture below from the covered bridge.

Recently, my bestest friend Wendy took a road trip and visited her old stompin' grounds of Tucson, AZ. While there, she snapped a really cool picture for me of a wagon along the hwy between Phoenix and Tucson. She knows me so well. Thanks, girlie. You're a peach :-)

Wagon at Chuckwagon Restaurant & Saloon

K, I've been proweling around in my Hideout, adding things here and there. Yep, I'm also working on the Outlaw Cave. The What?? Why, it's those Strays and Mavericks, the *other* wild and woolly boys who helped make up the Wild West :-)

. . . I've also added more Links ...including The Wild West Theme Park of Las Vegas, ( I'll be heading to Vegas again in August!!!) Ooooo, and word around the campfire is one can learn to handle a six shooter like (Hot!) actor Michael Biehn as Johnny Ringo in the movie 'Tombstone.'  Ooo yeah, I wanna learn how to do a road agent spin just like that!! < ggg >

And hey, btw, speaking of which, Dylan is back at his The Tombstone FAQ page
so, be sure to visit.

Until then,

If th' thumb itches, you'll have comp'ny.

It's been forever and a day since I've been in my Hideout. With the school year winding down for my young'uns, things have been a hoppin'.  I'm also putting the final editing touches on my current book.

I did finally get my Golden Gazette up and running. Yay! Took a few weeks of fighting with the little rascal, but it's back with a new url. Thank you bunches to all you folks for your
emails about when I was gonna get that page back up. It's Lilac Days here, and if you love those old fashioned flowers as much as I do, you'll wanna check it out and a link I've added. Ahhhh!

Also, I've got some more recipes I'll be adding soon.  And some pictures from the End of The Oregon Trail, which is just a stone's throw across the pond from us.

Y'all take care now.

Ever wonder what an outlaw might've done while on the dodge? Why, he could do plenty a things, respectively, such a gallantly escort a lady across a muddy street, elude lawmen, shield the widow and her brood from peril, or he might've taken on work at a ranch. Check out my new picture of  Butch Cassidy working as a cowboy in Utah. Also, while there, be sure read my new info on the Wild Bunch's hideouts. Yee-haw. Git along lil doggies.
